On Wearing a Headlight
It's one of those things you wear, like a bike helmet, just it shines a light in a circle, anywhere from 3-10 cm in diameter. You adjust it, so it shines right where your eyes naturally look. This adjusting is not so easy to do, really, even though you think it would be.
And while you work, you have to constantly think about where you shine your light. Sometimes, even though the light is shining, you forget to turn your head the right way, and, oops, there you find yourself, working in darkness. Things are always harder to do in the dark. If you remember, or if someone else reminds you, you can just turn in the right direction, and, lookie here, there is light. Sometimes you have to crouch down, stand on your tippie-toes, bend over, or move your head down, but look upwards with your eyes to see the light again. If you're mean, you can even shine it in someone else's eyes (well, I guess it's not mean if you're trying to wake them up), not that I've done that (yet). There's always a way to get your light where it needs to go; and sometimes, it can almost blind you if it's shining on a shiny surface and reflects back at you; and that's not helpful, either. Point is, sometimes you see it shining, and sometimes you don't, but whether you see it or not, it shines...
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matt 5:16
For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 2 Cor 4:6
The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. Rev 21:23
